Qatar Airways and Boeing have announced a deal valued at $1.4 billion for five new 777 aircraft, including 2 777-300ERs and 3 777 Freighters, pushing the carrier's lifetime 777 order total to 34 aircraft.

"It's an opportune time to be introducing more cargo capacity to our fleet," says Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways CEO. "As the State of Qatar and other parts of the region are growing at a phenomenal pace, we are well positioned to take advantage of this growth."

The order was previously disclosed on Boeing's orders and deliveries website earlier this year, but attributed to an unidentified customer.

Last week, the Doha-based carrier took delivery of its 25th 777, made up of 15 777-300ERs, eight 777-200LRs and two 777 Freighters, as part of orders for 29 of the long-range twins placed between 2006 and 2010.
