Reflectone UK hopes to sign a contract by mid-December to build and operate a training school for the Royal Air Force's British Aerospace Hawk T1 trainers. The company has been selected as the preferred bidder for the contract, to be awarded under the UK Ministry of Defence's private-finance initiative.
BAe, Reflectone's parent company, will finance construction of the Hawk training school at RAF Valley. The centre will house two Hawk weapon-system trainers (WSTs), one instrument-flight trainer and one cockpit-procedures trainer. The contract to provide Hawk training will run from 2000 to 2013.
The WSTs will have a visual system, supplied by UK company Equipe, which combines a SEOS dome display and Silicon Graphics image generator.
US-based Reflectone, meanwhile, is building its first two Airbus A320 full-flight simulators. They will be delivered to Airbus' Miami training centre and Asia-Pacific Training in Singapore in 1998.
