Pressure from the Israeli supreme court has forced the country's ministry of transport to allow Israeli airlines other than El Al to fly to New York, following an appeal by Israir. The Israeli airline had initially been prevented from flying charters to the US city by the ministry of transport, to protect flag carrier El Al. Israir will be allowed to operate 747 charter flights to New York in the summer 2003 timetable. Virgin Atlantic will reinstate a fifth daily service between London and New York Kennedy at the end of October. A second daily service between London and Washington Dulles will start next June.
