Down Mexico way

Continental Express, the regional subsidiary of Continental Airlines, plans to start a service from its hub at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport to San Luis Potosi, Mexico, next March, subject to government approval. By adding San Luis Potosi, Continental and Continental Express will serve 18 destinations in Mexico. Continental Express will operate the 50-seat Embraer RJ-145 regional jet.

Non-stop Vanguard

Vanguard Airlines will introduce two non-stop flights between Pittsburgh and Atlanta next March. It will also increase its daily round-trip flights between Denver and Kansas City from six to eight. The flights will begin after delivery of the airline's 14th Boeing 737-200.

New Express carrier

Colgan Air has become the newest US Airways Express carrier with the introduction of a non-stop service between Augusta, Bar Harbor and Rockland, Maine, and Boston Logan International Airport. As well as the new flights at these three Maine cities, Colgan Air is to operate as a US Airways Express carrier at Rutland, Vermont, and Beckley and Bluefield, West Virginia. The Rutland flights will be to Boston, and the West Virginia flights will tie into the US Airways system at Washington Dulles International Airport. Colgan Air will operate its new routes using a19-seat Beech 1900.

Southwest Airlines is to add daily non-stop services between Las Vegas and Columbus, Las Vegas and Indianapolis, Las Vegas and New Orleans, Austin and Raleigh-Durham, and Austin and San Diego from April 2000. On the same day, the airline will put in place an additional daily non-stop flight between Houston's Hobby Airport and Chicago's Midway Airport and between Las Vegas and Omaha.

Delta Air Lines will begin a daily non-stop service between New York (JFK) and Venice, Italy, from May 2000. The service is a result of the recently concluded USA-Italy open skies agreement. With the start of the new flight, Delta will offer five daily, non-stop flights between the USA and Italy - two flights daily from New York JFK to Rome, daily New York JFK flights to Milan, daily New York flights to Venice, and the daily Atlanta to Rome flight. The carrier will provide the new daily service with a Boeing 767-300E

Caribbean connections

Air Jamaica is to begin a daily direct service to Trinidad and Tobago from Kingston, Jamaica, from June 2000. The new service will make it easier to travel between the western and southern Caribbean via Air Jamaica's hub in Barbados, where the Trinidad-bound flight will make one stop. It will provide connections to both the airline's non-stop New York-Barbados flight and EC Express flights, a subsidiary of Air Jamaica, scheduled to launch this February.

Back to Seoul

United Airlines will resume a daily non-stop service between San Francisco, California, and Seoul, Korea, from April 2000. The flights will be operated with Boeing 747-400s.

Pro Air reaches Seattle

Detroit-based startup carrier Pro Air has launched a new service to Seattle. The airline will offer four evening flights a week between Seattle and Detroit City Airport using Boeing 737-400s.
