Farnborough ‘96 got a Royal thumbs-up yesterday from HRH the Duke of Edinburgh. Prince Philip flew in for the day to keep himself abreast of developments in the British and international aerospace industry.
After pounding the proverbial red carpet in the static park, he strolled through the exhibition halls, visiting stands and talking to exhibitors. Prince Philip, himself a pilot, was joined by Michael Turner, president of the Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC) and Ken Coates from Meggitt plc. Their escort was Trevor Sidebottom from the SBAC. After giving the Show his Royal seal of approval, Prince Philip flew out of Farnborough in a helicopter of the Royal Squadron.
