Russia is to upgrade its MilMi-24V/P Hind combat helicopters to Mi-24VK-1 and Mi-24PK-1 standard. Yevgeny Yablobsky, chief constructor at the Mil helicopter factory, says both helicopter versions will have a 24h capability following an avionics upgrade including liquid-crystal cockpit displays and an improved "multirole" computer, while the Mi-24VK-1 will also have improved navigation and piloting sensors and computers as well as night vision goggles. According to reports, the new machines will have improved Klimov VK-2500 engines and will later be upgraded to Mi-24VK-2 and Mi-24PK-2 standard with an improved weapons fit, including the KBM 9M120 Ataka (AT-9 Spiral) anti-tank missile.
