US ballistics company American Ammunition has demonstrated its new air defence round bullet (ADR) for use inside aircraft cabins. The manufacturer says that the ADR will not "pierce an aircraft fuselage but will penetrate human flesh". The company claims to have maintained velocity, and thus penetration, while restricting the expansion of the projectile dependent on the density of the target. It is now working on producing the bullet in standard calibres for use with the nascent air marshal service established as a reaction to the terror attacks of 11 September.
