Video images have emerged showing the effects of a tornado which struck Antalya airport, on the southern Turkish coast, on 26 January.

The vortex was captured appearing to head north along the airport apron, travelling between international Terminal 1 and the threshold of runway 18C.

Images show the storm hurling debris and displacing at least three parked aircraft – a Corendon Airlines Boeing 737 Max 8, an Onur Air Airbus, and another 737 in the colours of tour operator Detur.

Vehicles, including airport buses, were overturned as the storm passed, according to Turkish meteorological directorate MGM, and there is evidence of nose damage to an Onur Air jet.

Meteorological information from Antalya shows severe weather affected the airport for several hours over the course of the morning and afternoon.

The data listed the presence of thunderstorms and rain, while winds were recorded as gusting to 45kt.

Other aircraft shown in the vicinity of the vortex included jets operated by Germania and SunExpress Airlines. The full extent of damage to aircraft or infrastructure has yet to become clear.
