A WestJet Boeing 737-800 suffered damage to its right wing, after its right main landing gear collapsed on landing at Sint Maarten’s Princess Juliana airport. 

The 737 was operating as flight 2276 from Toronto, and was carrying 164 passengers and crew members. 

According to flight tracking data, the aircraft involved is registered C-GWSR (MSN35288), and has operated with the Canadian carrier since 2009.

Confirming the incident, WestJet states that the aircraft “experienced a hard landing” upon arrival at Sint Maarten at around 13:31 local time. 

There was no fire, though the aircraft suffered damage to its right wing, states Princess Juliana airport. Social media images show the aircraft resting on the runway on its right engine nacelle. 

WestJet adds: “Emergency services responded immediately, deploying foam as a precaution. The aircraft’s slides were activated, and all guests and crew safely evacuated and were transported to the terminal. All guests are accounted for and there are no reported injuries.” 

The incident has led to the closure of the airport, as airport officials work to remove the aircraft from the runway. The airport states that it will remain closed until 12:00 local time on 8 September.
