New York-based L-3 Communications has delivered the first of seven eXaminer 3DX 6000 explosive detection systems to Aeroporti Di Roma in Italy.

The system has been installed at Leonardo Da Vinci airport and will become operational later this year. The remaining units will be delivered in coming months.

The system generates three-dimensional images of all objects in bags passed through it. The contract, awarded in April to L-3 Communications together with E&G Astrophysics, also involves the delivery of 10 of the latter company's Z-Scan automatic screening systems.
