The FAA has given Level D certification to Sikorsky's S-76C+ full-flight simulator. The hi-tech training tool, based at FlightSafety's West Palm Beach Learning Center in Florida, was developed by FlightSafety and features three-touch screen controls, giving access to almost limitless simulated weather conditions.
The simulator's visual system is the latest version of VITAL ChromaView technology, which is allied with ultra-realistic motion and audio to replicate different aspects of helicopter flight.
Sikorsky says it is supplying technical support and curriculum development for the centre, which is to double in size to accommodate training for the S-76 as well as the S-70 Black Hawk and S-92 Helibus.
FlightSafety has also received approval from the European Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA) as a type rating training organisation, which means that European operators will be able to train on full-flight simulator programmes within the USA.
