Miami-based Aerolease Aviation has signed a letter of intent to order up to 20 MRJ regional jets, making it the first lessor to sign up for the aircraft.
The order comprises 10 firm orders and 10 options for the MRJ90, and a definitive agreement will be finalised "in the near future", says Mitsubishi Aircraft.
"The accumulated experiences in aircraft manufacturing and strong financial background of the Mitsubishi group are great value to us," says Aerolease partner Jep Thornton.
Mitsubishi Aircraft president Hiromichi Morimoto says the airframer is proud to add a lessor to its orderbook.
"We firmly believe that the asset value of the MRJ has been recognised in the aircraft finance market. This LOI will not only bring a positive impact on the lessor community, but will also contribute to expanding our airline customer base," he says.
The MRJ has so far secured 233 firm orders, as well as 170 options and 24 purchase rights.
