Air Niugini has announced an order for four Boeing 737 Max 8s at the Singapore air show, in a deal worth $440 million at list prices.

First deliveries of the aircraft are scheduled for 2020.

"The superb economics of the 737 Max will enable us to increase flight frequencies and develop into new markets which offer significant opportunities for Air Niugini," says the airline’s chairman, Frederick Reiher.

Boeing says the order was previously allocated to an unidentified customer.

Flightglobal’s Fleets Analyzer shows that Air Niugini operates a narrowbody fleet of two 737-800s and one -700. It also has two 767-300ERs, 10 Fokker 70s and 100s, and three Bombardier Q400s in its fleet. On order is a single 787-8.
