Slovakia has issued a request for information (RFI) for an aircraft to replace Soviet-era fighters and trainers.
The RFI calls for data on "a light subsonic trainer and multi-purpose combat aircraft" that can be used for advanced, operational and tactics training, and for missions against air and ground targets. Up to 50 aircraft are required.
Responses are required by the end of next month, with the Slovaks intent on issuing a request for tenders in September.
Aermacchi will enter the Yak/AEM-130, Aero Vodochody the L-159 and BAE Systems the Hawk. The Italian manufacturer is considering whether to replace the Slovak-built Povazske Strojarne DV-2, possibly with the HoneywellF124 or Rolls-Royce Turboméca Adour 900. Aermacchi could also enter its MB339.
