Garuda Indonesia has named Ari Askhara as its new chief executive on 12 September, replacing Pahala Mansury, while simultaneously replacing most of the company's leadership board.
Askhara returns to the Indonesian flag carrier after an absence of more than two years, where his LinkedIn profile states that he was the finance director between December 2014 and April 2016.
Prior to his Garuda appointment, Askhara was the chief executive at state-owned port operator Pelabuhan Indonesia III (Pelindo III).
Along with Mansury, domestic commercial director Nina Sulistyowati, international commercial and cargo director Sigit Muhartono, finance director Helmi Satriyono, human resources and general affairs director Linggarsari Suharso, and operations director Triyanto Moeharsono were all dismissed from the carrier.
Garuda's leadership board now comprises eight members, including Askhara. The others are Fuad Rizal as finance and risk management director, Pikri Ilham Kurniansyah as commercial director, Muhammad Iqbal as cargo and business expansion director, Heri Akhyar as human capital director, and Bambang Adisurya Angkasa as operations director.
Technical director I Wayan Susena and service director Nicodemus Panarung Lampe retain their roles under the new board.
Mansury leaves Garuda at a time when the carrier reported a reduction in its second quarter operating and net losses, and increases in its total group revenue. Operating loss narrowed to $42 million, as revenues increased 4% to $1.02 billion, while its net loss saw a 73% improvement to $47.9 million.
