AgustaWestland is showcasing an EH101 from the Italian navy in heliborne early warning (HEW) configuration for the first time at Paris.
The Italian navy has ordered 20 EH101s - eight configured for anti-submarine warfare, four for airborne early warning and eight for amphibious operations. The Anglo-Italian manufacturer expects a further order for four aircraft at the end of 2003, bringing the Italian navy order to a total of 24 aircraft.
The HEW variants are equipped with a pulse-doppler surveillance radar and APS 784 antenna housed in a 3m-diameter (10ft) radome. They are able to track multiple air targets even if embedded in ground or sea clutter, track monitor surface targets and perform real-time surveillance of air and surface threats.
