Police specialists are examining a suspect device discovered during the loading of an Air Berlin service in Namibia.
The aircraft, operated by the carrier's LTU division, had been undergoing preparation for a flight yesterday to Munich.
Reservations data shows that the Windhoek-Munich route is served weekly as AB7377, using Airbus A330 aircraft.
Germany's federal police organisation Bundeskriminalamt states that a suspicious item of luggage was intercepted during the loading process.
Examination revealed the presence of a running clock, batteries, and a connection to a detonator, but the inquiry has yet to conclude whether the device was a viable threat.
"Whether this is an explosives detonator will only be determined following the completion of continuing forensic investigation," says the Bundeskriminalamt.
