The Swedish military has awarded Rockwell Collins (Hall 4, A2) a $16.5 million contract to provide 76 multi-channel radios, documentation and training for its tactical data radio system (TDRS).

TDRS will support the Swedish armed forces initiative to develop a network-based defence. The software-defined radio system will consist of modular, open architecture, hardware and software components and will host a customised, high-data rate, networked waveform.

The new waveform will provide Swedish tactical forces with a wireless, mobile, ad-hoc network capable of simultaneous voice, data, and video communications.

Bruce King, vice-president and general manager of communications systems for Rockwell Collins, says: "Our experience in developing software-defined radio solutions has positioned Rockwell Collins to be a trusted provider of transformational defence communications."
