Swiss International Air Lines is in talks with Switzerland's postal company Swiss Post over its planned use of the brand 'Swiss Express'.

The carrier revealed at the beginning of May that it was to spin off its regional operation into a new carrier to be formed under the Swiss Express name.

But the plan has encountered an unexpected obstacle in the shape of the Swiss postal operation which uses the same corporate identifier for one of its express delivery products.

A spokesman for Swiss Post says: "We are in contact with Swiss to see if we can reach an agreement for use of this name by the two companies."

Under the regional carrier plan, Swiss Express intends to launch services in the autumn using the mainline airline's fleet of Saab 2000s, Embraer ERJ-145s and BAE Systems Avro RJs.
