High import charges in Slovakia are threatening to delay the deliveries of a Saab 340A and Saab 2000 to Bratislava-based regional carrier Tatra Air. The company flies two Saab 340Bs, and is hoping to get the additional 340 "shortly" with the Saab 2000 to follow in October. Tatra's commercial and operations manager Karl Nemec, says that Slovak customs authorities are demanding some $2.5 million import duty on the 340A, and "much more" for the 2000. The airline is trying to negotiate a way round the charges, but the aircraft deliveries may be delayed.
