Thai Airways International's new regional carrier will start operations in July next year.

The carrier will be named Thai Smile, said Raj Tanta-Nanta Thai's vice president for investor relations.

The carrier will start operations with four Airbus A320s. Thai Smile's A320 fleet will gradually be ramped up to 11.

Thai Smile's aircraft will be configured to offer both business and economy class seats. Brunei, Medan, Penang, Danang and Amritsar are possible international launch destinations for Thai Smile.

The Thai board is still reviewing the business plan for Thai Smile. The carrier's branding and marketing strategy has not been fixed.
