Thales Communications and EADS Systems and Defence Electronics are forming a consortium to bid jointly for the second production phase of the French government's DNG3D digital geographical data programme.

DNG3D combines raw data from a range of commercial and military observation sensors to provide high-quality, high-precision geographical data. Uses for this data include inputting to navigational systems in missiles or aircraft.

The two companies will draw on various information sources including satellite and aerial image data, and will aim to exploit their experience in prime contracting for major geographical data programmes. The winner of the competition is due to be announced by the end of the year.
