The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has selected Internet provider SITA as a preferred corporate networking partner and signed a three-year agreement for exclusive networking services for corporate offices.
The result will be that airlines around the world will have desktop access to SITA's online solutions which include electronic mail, intranet and access to the World Wide Web.
IATA's offices in Singapore, Miami, Montreal, London and Geneva will be networked via SITA's global network infrastructure. Other IATA offices will be connected by a dial-up modem link.
SITA introduced the world's first 'global community intranet service' called AeroNet in 1995. The network was designed specifically for the aerospace and air transport industries.
Announcing the agreement here at the show, Peter Heath, SITA's president, North East and Central Europe says: "Partnering with SITA gives IATA a seamless interface for airlines to radically improve the industry payment and accounting procedures as well as enabling the easy access, exchange and tracking of reservations and ticketing information.
