I fail to comprehend why the aerospace industry is under such pressure to reduce noise nuisance (at a huge financial expense) when in the heart of most major European cities the noise nuisance from motor cycles and scooters far supersedes that of any neighbouring airport (Flight International, 17-30 December). Yet little seems to be done about regulating this noise.

I live within 1km (0.6 miles) of a busy airport and barely notice the sound of aircraft. However, when in the centre of a neighbouring city I often have to pause in conversation when a motorcycle passes.
