BOMBARDIER HAS selected Embaer's EMB-312H Super Tucano turboprop trainer for the proposed NATO Flying Training in Canada (NFTC) programme.
The British Aerospace Hawk 100 has already been selected as the advanced trainer for the contractor-run NFTC project. No orders have been placed, but the Canadian company expects to require some 35 Super Tucanos and 35 Hawks, which would be leased to the Canadian forces and NATO customers on a "power-by-the-hour" basis (Flight International, 6-12 September).
Bombardier will submit its NFTC proposal to the Canadian Department of National Defence by early November. The department will then determine whether industry-run training will be cheaper than the present system.
