US Airways has begun its short-haul fleet replacement programme with the handing over of the first of up to 400 A320 family aircraft on 16 October. The first aircraft, a CFM International CFM56-powered A319, is one of 124 firm orders placed by the airline for Airbus narrowbodies. Options are held for another 276 aircraft, to replace Boeing 727s, 737s and MD-80s, Fokker 100s and McDonnell Douglas DC-9s.
