FLIR Systems has inked a $32.8 million deal with the US army's space and missile defence Command to supply thermal imaging systems. Subject to funding availability, the total contract value could exceed $60 million.

The deal marks the first sales of the New Star Safire HD system featuring the industry's first all digital high-definition stabilised suite of sensors.

Star Safire HD allows users up to three times more detail, see from further away and analyse situations faster than ever before, says Earl Lewis, FLIR Systems' president and chief executive. Announcing the deal here at the show, he said: "This contract represents a continuation of FLIR's relationship with the US army's JLENS/RAID project office. We are pleased to have the opportunity to rapidly deploy sensors in the support of our armed forces.

"The Star Safire HD is one of FLIR's newest and most advanced products and we're delighted that the army has again chosen FLIR to provide further systems to enhance force protection for our troops overseas."
