Up to 1,400 US airline pilots will be armed if legislation just approved by the House Transportation Committee is backed by Congress. The proposed bill would arm 2% of airline pilots for a trial period of two years, after which the programme would be reviewed. The pilots' unions back the plan, but reject the idea of individual psychometric testing.
