Work on the US Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR), a document outlining the administration's defence policy, should be completed by the end of next month. QDR availability will give the US armed forces "some real guidance" in preparing their fiscal year 2003 budget submissions, says a senior US defence official. At this point, however, no conclusions have been made regarding the QDR, with the DoD insider denying reports that the Pentagon has discarded its long-standing two-war strategy. Dropping the policy would allow force levels and weapons stocks to be reduced.
