The US Navy has placed a $29 million Foreign Military Sales contract with Northrop Grumman's Electronic Sensors and Systems Sector for electronic counter-measures equipment.
The contract calls for the Enhanced AN/ALQ-162 high-band radio frequency jammer to be supplied for Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcons of the Royal Norwegian Air Force (29 systems) and the Royal Danish Air Force (four systems). The deal also contains options to provide additional systems for other fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft, including those of the Egyptian air force.
Northrop Grumman says it has supplied more than 600 examples of the AN/ALQ-162 to US and international customers. With one year's development still required on the equipment ordered yesterday and a further 18 months to delivery, it is likely to reach its customers in the second quarter of 2002.
