The USA is trying to block the sale of additional Israeli developed airborne early warning (AEW) systems to China. The move follows the arrival in Tel Aviv of the first Beriev A-50 to be fitted with the Elbit Phalcon phased-array radar for China.

The USA is applying pressure on Israel, which is in advanced negotiations with China on the sale of another three Phalcon AEW systems. The Chinese requirement for four AEW systems could be worth $1 billion. The US dominates the world's AEW market and is concerned about the leak of sensitive technology to Beijing.
