THE US AIR FORCE will release the formal request for proposal for two off-the-shelf business aircraft to be designated C-37A in mid-October.

Final responses are due from interested parties in December, and the USAF is expected to pick the winning aircraft in April 1997 after completing flight evaluations of candidates for the so-called Small VC-X programme.

Gulfstream Aerospace will offer its Gulfstream V, and Dassault is expected to offer the Falcon 900EX.

Boeing and General Electric's corporate-jet version of the new-generation 737, is expected to be offered as well. Bombardier is still deciding whether to compete.
