Virgin Nigeria and the Nigerian College of Air Training (NCAT), Zaria have agreed to co-operate on training pilots and mechanics “from scratch”, and Virgin says it will employ the successful graduates. “The available pool of qualified Nigerian pilots and engineers are already employed by ourselves and other airlines,” says Virgin, noting the carrier’s plans to take delivery of six new aircraft this year. At present Virgin Nigeria has 41 pilots, of which “nine are foreigners”, says the airline. Meanwhile. Virgin has welcomed plans by NCAT to locate a Boeing 737 simulator at Lagos International airport.
