Airbus is evaluating two aircraft for potential damage and has closed one hangar at its Mobile aircraft assembly site after a fire suppression system activated on 13 September.
Airbus confirms the incident to FlightGlobal but does not specify the type of aircraft affected or the extent of potential damages.
The company assembles A320-family and A220-family aircraft in Mobile.
Though the suppression system activated, Airbus says it has no indication there was an actual fire. It adds that no staff were harmed in the incident, which was reported 16 September by aviation website Wings over Quebec.
“During off-production time the fire suppression system activated in one of the support hangars at the Airbus manufacturing facility in Mobile, Alabama,” Airbus says in a statement.
“Two aircraft that were in the hanger at the time are being evaluated for potential impact. We are in direct contact with the customer to keep them informed,” Airbus adds. “The hangar has been closed as on-site assessment teams work to determine the cause of the activation.”
Airbus declines to comment further.
