Nat Pieper will leave has role as chief executive of the Oneworld alliance and become chief commercial officer at member carrier American Airlines, filling a role that has been vacant for more than a year.
The development was announced as American revealed its earnings for the third quarter of 2025 on 23 October.

Pieper will take up his position at American on 3 November and will be tasked with guiding the airline as it continues to recover from a failed attempt to overhaul its distribution strategy under previous chief commercial officer Vasu Raja, who departed the business in June 2024.
Pieper was only appointed as Oneworld chief in April 2024, following 25 years in commercial and finance roles at Alaska Air Group, Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines.
Oneworld is yet to name a replacement for Pieper.
American has also announced that vice chair Steve Johnson is returning to his role as chief strategy officer, having led temporarily taken on the commercial brief during the period between permanent appointments.
Meanwhile, American chief executive Robert Isom says the business is “delivering on our commitments” as it announced an improved operating income of $151 million for the third quarter, on revenue that was essentially flat at $13.7 billion. It achieved a slightly smaller net loss year on year, of $114 million.
