Qantas has entered into a bilateral codeshare partnership with fellow Oneworld alliance member Malaysia Airlines.

Under the partnership, Qantas will add its code to Malaysia Airlines-operated flights between Kuala Lumpur and the Australian cities of Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.

Qantas will codeshare Malaysia Airlines flights between Malaysia and Australia.

Qantas, which does not operate to Kuala Lumpur from Australia, will also codeshare Malaysia Airlines’ domestic flights to cities such as Kuching, Kota Kinabalu and Penang.

The Australian carrier will also add its code on Malaysia Airlines’s flights between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

In turn, Malaysia Airlines will codeshare Qantas domestic flights to cities like Hobart, Darwin and Canberra. CEO of Malaysia Airlines parent Malaysia Aviation Group Izham Ismail says Australia is a “core part of our network”, noting that the airline has placed its newly-delivered Airbus A330neos on flights to the country.

“Our partnership with Qantas marks an important step forward as we strengthen Malaysia Airlines’ presence in Australia, a key market in our long-term strategy,” Izham adds.

The codeshare will go into affect from late-October, but flights are already for booking, states Qantas.

Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace adds: “As one of our Oneworld partners in Asia, we’re pleased to deepen our relationship with Malaysia Airlines, making it easier for Qantas customers to travel to Malaysia while enjoying frequent flyer rewards and premium service.”
