British Airways has opted to deploy handheld in-flight entertainment (IFE) players for its new transatlantic operation OpenSkies and selected California-based IMS to provide the units.

IMS will provide its PAV-705 handheld IFE player and will also provide content management services and ground service provisioning, including content loading, battery charging and headsets.

Each content set on the players will comprise more than 50 hours of audio and video programming.

BA is deploying the units across all three classes of the 82-seat configured Boeing 757-200s operated by OpenSkies – though the two premium classes will also offer in-seat power and built in arms to enable hands free viewing.

OpenSkies, which has been established to launch operations linking key business destinations in mainland Europe with the US, is planning to start operating its first route from Paris Charles de Gaulle to New York JFK this summer.
