China Southern Airlines plans to start a service between Beijing and Phuket from 1 January 2010.

The Guangzhou-based carrier has applied to the authorities to operate the service three times a week, says an official in the airline's route planning department.

China Southern will increase service frequency on the route during the Chinese New Year holiday, but has not decided on the additional number of flights yet, he adds.

The carrier will operate Airbus A330-300 aircraft on the route, says the official.
