Northrop Grumman has signed a foreign military sales (FMS) contract with Egypt to deliver an EC-2 Hawkeye 2000 export configuration aircraft.

The contract adds the modification and upgrade of a sixth Egyptian E-2C, a former US Navy E-2C early warning and control aircraft to an existing programme of work, now worth $163 million.

Egypt signed a deal in 1999 for the upgrade of its five Hawkeyes under an FMS contract valued at $138 million, which funds non-recurring design and development work and the purchase of retrofit kits and initial spares.

Upgrade

A follow-on contract is expected later this year for the installation of the upgrade kits.

"This programme brings benefits to both Egypt and Northrop Grumman," says John Michaelson, vice-president of ISS, the company's Integrated Systems Sector. "Egypt will realise significant cost savings by having the modifications done at our St Augustine plant and those savings have allowed them to purchase another Hawkeye at minimal cost."

The Hawkeye 2000 export configuration variant features the same new mission computer upgrade and advanced control indicator set workstations that are included in the US Navy Hawkeye 2000.
