Leonardo has received an order for five additional AW139 intermediate twin-engined helicopters from Italy's Vigili del Fuoco fire corps.

Valued at over €75 million ($83 million) and including logistical support and training, the deal adds to a previous three-unit purchase – one of which is present on the manufacturer's Paris static exhibit.

Deliveries of the latest batch are due in June 2020 and are part of an effort to replace decades-old Agusta-Bell AB412s.

The Vigili del Fuoco's AW139s feature a wide range of mission equipment, including an external rescue hoist, cargo hook with bambi bucket provision, as well as a high-definition forward-looking infrared system. In addition, they are equipped with the manufacturer's lidar collision-prevention technology.
