Turkish Aerospace Industries has confirmed that a Honeywell and Rolls-Royce joint venture will supply CTS800 turboshaft engines for its developmental Turkish Light Utility Helicopter (TLUH).

Working through their Light Helicopter Turbine Engine Company (LHTEC) business, the partners will begin a five-year development effort to integrate and certificate the 1,300-1,700shp (969-1,270kW) CTS800-4AT onto the TLUH platform

The agreement, signed on 10 December, builds on a memorandum of understanding detailed at the Paris air show in June.

Ongoing since September 2013, the TLUH programme will, from 2020, supply 5t twin-engined helicopters to the local military and civil market, as well as targeting export opportunities.

Working with local manufacturers, LHTEC plans to industrialise production and maintenance of the engine in Turkey. CTS800 turboshafts already power the Turkish Aerospace Industries T129 ATAK helicopters used by the country’s land forces.
