Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics has passed yet another important milestone for its innovative Head-up Guidance System (HGS).
The company has obtained a supplemental type certificate (STC) for HGS on Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) Boeing Next-Generation 737-600 aircraft.
After the FAA and the Swedish civil aviation authority Luftartsverket (LFV) granted airworthiness approval for the HGS, SAS installed the system on its fleet of Boeing 737-600s.
Delivery
"We will also be working on the 737-900 as that programme moves along at Boeing," says John Desmond, president of Rockwell Collins Flight Dynamics. "Approximately 42% of the Next-Generation 737s are scheduled for delivery with provision for the HGS."
The HGS enables landings in visibility conditions as low as 200m Runway Visual Range (RVR) at Cat III runways, and landings in Cat II conditions at Cat I runways. It will also allow takeoffs in visibility conditions as low as 75m RVR from Cat III runways.
Certification
This is the 14th HGS certification obtained by Flight Dynamics. The 737-600 STC completes the entire 737 Classic (737-300, -400 and -500) and 737 Next Generation (737-600, -700 and -800) lines of HGS applications.
The HGS has now accumulated more than five million hours in revenue service, More than 800 systems have been delivered with a further 400 firm orders.
