Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (GAMECO) will open a Boeing Converted Freighter (BCF) production line at its Guangzhou base.

Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (GAMECO) will open a Boeing Converted Freighter (BCF) production line at its Guangzhou base.

The company's general manager Norbert Marx states that it is “working closely” with Boeing in preparation of the new line, which will see the first aircraft inaugurated for conversion in 2020.

The Guangzhou line would be the third in China, after newly-inaugurated conversion lines at at Boeing Shanghai Aviation Services (BSAS) and Taikoo (Shandong) Aircraft Engineering Company (STAECO).

In April, Boeing Global Services signed a services agreement with GAMECO, allowing the airframer to send work to GAMECO, while it provides training, maintenance data and technical support for the Chinese MRO.

Boeing launched the 737-800BCF programme in 2016, with the first converted freighter entering service last year. The airframer now has 120 orders and commitments for the 737-800BCFs. Boeing has said it is “on pace” to deliver 17 737-800BCFs this year, more than doubling last year’s output.
