Rockwell Collins has teamed up with Silicon Valley company Stellar Labs to develop an enhanced, cloud-based version of the former’s ARINC Direct flight operations management system.
The as-yet-unbranded service, unveiled at NBAA today, will give aircraft operators and flight departments “access to an end-to-end aircraft management solution through mobile devices, tablets and web browsers”, the two companies say.
Stellar already offers a “digital marketplace” for private aviation, matching brokers with Part 135 operators that have available aircraft. Rockwell Collins acquired ARINC in 2015, together with its Flight Operations System or FOS platform, which helps flight departments schedule their crews and aircraft and keep track of paperwork.
The new product “addresses the growing demand for flight departments, aircraft management operators, FBOs, maintenance and crews to work together, even across company lines,” says Dave Poltorak, vice-president, business and government aviation at Rockwell Collins. “Our new approach with Stellar Labs makes this possible by creating a cloud-based global system that supports fast, robust and highly secure collaboration at every level.”
Customers of both Stellar and FOS will be able to access the new service from tomorrow. “Over the next year, we’ll be moving the two systems closer together, and start offering pieces of the integrated solution,” says Paul Touw, chief executive and chairman of Stellar.
