Capital Airlines has applied to launch services to Melbourne and St Petersburg in the coming months.

The Beijing-based carrier is seeking rights to start thrice weekly Beijing-Qingdao-Melbourne route in December.

Thereafter, in February 2017, it plans to launch twice weekly Hangzhou-Wuhan-St Petersburg services.

Both routes will be operated using Airbus A330-200s.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China is calling for those with comments to the applications to submit them by 18 September.

FlightGlobal schedules data shows that Capital Airlines will compete with Air China between Beijing and Melbourne, but will hold a monopoly on the Hangzhou-St Petersburg route.
