AIX might not seem the natural home for a company that specialises in highly-bespoke completions and supplemental type certificate projects on VIP jets, but Switzerland’s AMAC Aerospace is back at the show after making its debut here last year.

“A lot of our customers are here, and the OEMs are all present. We are able to have lots of meetings with people that we need to see,” says Waleed Muhiddin, director of business development and marketing for the Basel-based company.

AMAC, founded in 2008 at Basel-Mulhouse airport, has undergone rapid growth, opening hangars in 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2015. The company has broken ground on a fifth facility, which is due to open in the second quarter of next year.

As well as handling around 20 major corporate airliner conversions, AMAC has established more than 10 STCs, including to install Honeywell’s JetWave Ka-band connectivity package, and Elbit Systems' infrared missile protection technology. It has fitted 13 of the former, and three of the latter – on two Gulfstream G650s and an Airbus A340.

“We are one of the largest design organisations in Europe,” says Muhiddin.

AMAC has the contract to install the interior on the first ACJ320neo, which is due to be delivered to launch operator Acropolis by the end of this year. Two Boeing BBJ 737 Max aircraft will arrive for completion in the fourth quarter of this year and the second quarter of next year, respectively.

AMAC also has MRO hangars in Turkey, while its subsidiary, JCB Aero in Auch, France – which it bought three years ago – manufactures and maintains cabin interior parts for VIP completions.
