Schott is showing the first two in a series of “gem stone inspired” business class-cabin compact reading lights that the German company says are slimmer than most on the market.

The Opal range of round lights are being offered as an option on the Boeing 777X, which is due to fly later this year, and enter service in 2020.
Mainz-based Schott – which specialises in glass products across a range of industries including automotive, pharma, and home appliances – says the Opal has been “designed to meet today’s needs for gracious and functional in-seat reading lights”.
A second range, called Sapphire, designed with agency PriestmanGoode, is a “modular concept” that comes in round and oblong shapes, and four different inlays. There are two tilt mechanism options. The product does not yet have a customer but is “available for sale today”, says Schott.
Schott is also unveiling a temperature sensor-equipped LED strip that can be “easily integrated” into shells or other seat structures to create mood lighting, says the company. The product will also be an option on the 777X.
