US firm ARINC has completed an extensive programmed depot maintenance on a 30-year-old Indonesian air force Lockheed Martin C-130H Hercules transport.

"Following months of significant structural and systems repair work" at ARINC's Oklahoma City facility, the aircraft was flown to Halim air base near Jakarta, ARINC said in a statement. The maintenance was conducted under the US government's Foreign Military Sales programme.

"Indonesia's C-130H aircraft are critical assets used primarily for humanitarian aid and rescue missions in this region prone to earthquakes and flooding," ARINC says.

"The work performed by ARINC Aerospace is an important first step in improving the Indonesian air force airlift capability and the programme was significant in the effort to improving USA-Indonesian relations."

ARINC is playing an important role in upgrading Indonesia's Hercules fleet, which was hurt by US sanctions in the 1990s. In January 2011 the company won a $63.7 million contract to modernise five of its air force's C-130Bs.
