Australia's army has received the first of two simulators for the NH Industries MRH90 transport helicopter.

The simulator will be located at the Army Aviation Training Centre in Oakey, Queensland, the Australian Department of Defence says in a statement. The second will be located in Townsville when it is installed in 2014.

"The simulator allows army and navy pilots to practice their skills in all flight regimes, day or night, and accurately reproduces the feel of the aircraft in flight," says the DoD.

Canberra is to receive a combined total of 47 MRH90s for its army and navy, with Flightglobal's Ascend Online Fleets database recording 22 of the NH90 derivative as having been delivered so far. Its original order was for 46 units, but another is to be supplied as a result of a contract renegotiation agreed with Eurocopter subsidiary Australian Aerospace in May 2013.

This should also see the MRH90 acquisition being removed from the nation's Projects of Concern list by year-end.
