Maintenance time on the Boeing 787 will be half that of the 767, thanks to a series of innovations including carbonfibre structures, advanced systems monitoring, electrics replacing hydraulic and other systems and LED lighting, says Boeing. Courtney Makela, 787 fleet chief, told a workshop session at MRO Middle East that 150 instruction pilots were ready to train customer pilots and that the airframer had "service-ready products in place" for maintenance shops.
